Juvenile Detention Process
Upon an event that needs detention of a juvenile:
Confirm with Juvenile Probation Officer, Katie Schrader, your intent to detain and the reason: Cell (812) 593-5954 or Office (812) 663-3943
If Katie is unavailable, call Liz Lecher Hochstedler (812)593-4571 or Doug Brown (317) 372-9589
If Katie needs to conference in the Prosecutor’s Office on the determination, she will.
If detention is appropriate, Katie will confirm to the arresting officer the following documents are necessary to go from the officer to the judge for signature:
From Officer to Judge on night of detention:
Written Order for Emergency Juvenile Detention and Notice of Detention Hearing
Johnson County Juvenile Justice Center Pre-Admission Checklist
Johnson County Juvenile Justice Center Remand Slip
From Officer to Parent or Guardian on night of detention:
A copy of #2 above: Written Order for Emergency Juvenile Detention and Notice of Detention Hearing
From Officer to Prosecutor’s Office the next morning
Juvenile Complaint Report Cover Page attached on top of:
Copies of #1, #2, #3, #4 from above
4. The next day, Katie would confirm placement with Johnson County and the Prosecutor’s Office would confirm:
A JM caption and cause number
A Transport Order to get the child back for the detention hearing
Confirm both officer and parent/guardian attendance at the initial detention hearing
